The use of AI in the pharmaceutical sector: the Partex experience
ABSTRACT:
Pharmaceutical R&D faces a structural crisis: a 90% clinical failure rate, an average cost of $2.3 billion per approved drug, and development timelines stretching across a decade. Despite record global R&D investment exceeding $300 billion in 2024, the industry's core processes remain fragmented, siloed, and slow. This presentation introduces AI's end-to-end solutions, with a particular focus on indication expansion, the repurposing of existing drug assets to address unmet medical needs in new disease areas. Rather than starting from scratch, Partex applies a proprietary combination of a biomedical Knowledge Graph (84 million nodes, 665 million relationships), advanced predictive AI models, and one of the largest GPU compute clusters in healthcare to identify, score, and validate new indications for existing molecules. The methodology follows a rigorous three-stage pipeline> biological evidence aggregation, clinical feasibility prediction, and commercial landscape assessment. Culminating in a fully validated indication package ready for Phase 2a entry. For orphan diseases, this process can compress development timelines significantly, potentially reaching patients who currently have no approved treatment option.
