Supplements and foods for special medical purposes: scientific, technological, and regulatory aspects
SALA DELL’ARCO
15:15-19:00
Supplements are food products, concentrated sources of nutrients or palliatives, with physiological effects (such as vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and plant extracts) to supplement the diet and optimize nutritional intake in maintaining homeostasis. Foods for special medical purposes (AFMS) are products intended for particular nutritional uses, to be used under medical supervision, designed to meet the nutritional needs of patients with diseases or conditions that prevent them from meeting their nutritional requirements through normal eating. The Pharmaceutical Sciences session aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the world of supplements and foods for special medical purposes, taking into account the technical, scientific, quality, and safety aspects, as well as the industrial and regulatory aspects of these products.
